A hospital in the UK hopes to become the first to broadcast a cancer surgery online in virtual reality.

On 14 April at 16:00 (local time), Barts Hospital, and Mativision and Medical Realities will broadcast an online cancer surgery, enabling viewers to explore the operating theatre as if they were actually there.

If you want to see the surgery all you need is to go to their website, where at the time of writing this article there was a clock counting down to the zero hour of the broadcast. There you can download either the simple smartphone app without the use of virtual reality or the Google Cardboard app. The team recommends using Google Cardboard to get a full virtual reality

display, but you can also just use your browser.

Dr Ahmed, who will lead the surgical team, has previously livestreamed surgery via Glass in 2014. He is an advocate of using these types of technology for global medical education.

The patient who has agreed to the public broadcast of the surgery has colon cancer, is 70 years old and is excited about the event.
