Google Workspace apps are rated among the best productivity tools in the enterprise. The suite covers a wide range of services, including Slides, which was just updated last week, Docs, Sheets, Meet, Chat and, of course, Gmail. The popular email client Gmail now receives client-side encryption (CSE) on the web in beta. The company says the feature will reach the rest of its services "at a later release".

Αν θέλετε πρόσβαση στο CSE for Gmail, το Google Workspace σας πρέπει να είναι στα επίπεδα Enterprise Plus, Education Plus ή Education Standard.

SCE provides an additional layer of protection for users who need to send sensitive information via networks ή devices.

Studying the support page of Google's CSE, it becomes apparent that the organization's administrators will have complete control over which person within the company will have access to the keys. This means that they will be able to monitor all encrypted user files. In comparison, when using end-to-end encryption administrators are unable to see the encrypted files of users

.

Google states that features such as multi-send mode, signatures, smart compose, smart compose and Confidential mode will not be available when using CSE emails. In addition, users will not be able to Search within a secure message, nor will external add-ons be allowed to access the plain-text content of the encrypted message.

For industries operating in highly regulated sectors such as government, defence, aerospace and financial institutions, Google strongly recommends the CSE. This security feature is already available for some of its products, including Docs, Slides, Sheets and Drive, while beta testing is underway with Calendar.

Those who meet the requirements can apply to test the beta client-side encryption version of Gmail until 20 January 2023. The CSE will also go to Gmail for Android and iOS, but Google did not offer a timeline for its release.
