Η Atari announced that it is acquiring the brand of Intellivision, along with over 200 games from Intellivision Entertainment LLC.

This move marks the end of the conflict between the two console companies, in which Atari and Intellivision were fierce rivals until 1979. The original Intellivision console, released by Mattel, it faced the Atari VCS (later known as the 2600) for a full decade before the Nintendo and the Sega start their own rivalry.

"Atari's partnership with Intellivision after 45 years brings an end to the longest-running console war in history," said Mike Mika, head of Atari-owned Digital Eclipse studio.

The deal does not include the long-awaited Intellivision Amico retro console. Intellivision Entertainment LLC will continue as an independent and renamed company, using the Atari license to release Intellivision games. and Android, which requires two smartphones or tablets to make it work: one displays the game and the other acts as a controller.

As for Atari, it is already leveraging the Intellivision brand, adding items such as t-shirts to its online store. Atari CEO and President, Wade Rosen, told Atari's X that the acquisition represented a "very rare opportunity to unite former competitors and bring together fans of Atari, Intellivision and the golden age of gaming".

Η ColecoVision, another console from the early 1980s, was also part of this golden age of gaming, but has yet to be acquired by Atari.
